Volkswagen ID.5 in Criccieth Gwynedd
The VW ID.5’s powerful electric performance and sleek, sporty styling is a winning combination. The 77kWh battery offers up to 327-miles of range in Pro (174PS) and Pro Performance (204PS) guise, or 314-miles in the GTX which kicks out a whopping 299PS. Regenerative braking enables one-pedal driving to recuperate energy, while Normal, ECO, and ECO+ drive modes let you tune acceleration and efficiency. All models support 7.2kW/11kW AC charging and 135kW rapid charging (62 miles of range in 7 minutes). Trims include Style, Tech, Max, and GTX Style. Style has 12” Discover Max infotainment, a panoramic glass roof, Matrix LED headlights, Park Assistance Plus, a reversing camera, and keyless entry and start. Tech adds powered front seats, Area View, and an AR head-up display. Max boasts 20” alloys, sports front seats, a heat pump, and adaptive chassis control (DCC). Standard assistance systems include adaptive cruise control, lane assist, dynamic road sign display, and oncoming vehicle braking when turning including swerve support.
Design
An elegant coupe SUV, the ID.5 straddles the line between elegance and sportiness to turn heads everywhere. Style and Tech models ride on 19” alloys and have a panoramic roof with Max and GTX Style models riding on 20” alloy wheels.
Drive
Instant acceleration and a near-silent electric motor give the ID.5 surreal performance. It’s available in Pro (174PS), Pro Performance (204PS), and GTX (299PS grades), with each version offering over 300-miles of range.
Practicality
All models have keyless entry and start, a variable boot floor and 549-litres of boot space, with Tech models onwards getting an electric hands-free tailgate. The ID.5 is also an accomplished tow car with a 1,000kg braked tow capacity.
Living with it
The 12” touchscreen is a dream to use with Wireless App-Connect, and you can charge your smartphone wirelessly. All versions have a heated windscreen. Max models get a heat pump for energy efficient heating and ventilation.
